Guwahati News Desk: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) announced a reward of Rs 3 lakh to boxer Lovlina Borgohain who clinched a bronze medal at Tokyo Olympics 2020 on Wednesday.
The announcement was made by the newly appointed President of APCC, Bhupen Borah on Wednesday. After the announcement was made Borah said Lovlina Borgohain has made history not only for Assam but also for India.
The APCC President also said, “We will reward Rs 3 lakh assistance to Lovlina for her success and making India proud at Tokyo Olympics.” Congress will welcome Lovlina warmly on her return to Assam from Tokyo.
Lovlina becomes the third Indian boxer after Vijendra Singh and MC Mary Kom to bag a medal at the Olympic Games. She is the first female athlete from Assam to qualify for Tokyo Olympics. She qualified for Olympics in March 2020 by winning the Asia and Oceania Boxing Olympic Qualification Tournament.
Earlier, Lovlina reached the semi-final after winning at the quarter-finals in the 69 kg weight category by defeating Nien-chin of China for 4-1 on Friday.
However, Lovlina lost to Busenaz Surmeneli of Turkey in the womenâs welterweight of 64-69 kg in the semis.
