Guwahati News Desk: North Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Tuesday, witnessed the death of a militant, killed in an encounter with the security forces.
The encounter between security forces and militants broke out during an anti-militancy operation in Bandipora, during the morning hours of Tuesday.
As per the sources, a cordon and search operation was launched in the Chandaji area of the district after inputs about the presence of militants in the area. But the search eventually turned out to be a gun battle.
As informed by a police official, the militants who were encircled in the morning, made a bid to escape from the spot “by opening fire”.
In the subsequent exchange of fire, one militant was killed while the encounter rages on.
The police have not divulged details about the number of militants trapped in the area and their affiliation.
Meanwhile, the militant killed in the ongoing encounter has been identified as Babar Ali of Ugada district of Pakistan’s Punjab.
As the encounter is still underway at the Chandaji area of Bandipora, the area has been sealed off by the police for the time being.
