Guwahati News Desk: State Animal Husbandry Minister Atul Bora on Monday said that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has emphasized on the production of 10 lakh liters of milk per day in the State. To achieve that objective, an attempt has been made to lead the dairy sector of the state with proper planning. Bora informed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed between the National Dairy Development Board and the Government of Assam which will be finalized soon.

“The agreement will be signed on December 11, 2021, in the presence of Union Animal Husbandry Minister Parshottam Rupala and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma,” stated Atul Bora while distributing appointment letters to eight newly-appointed Dairy Technologists at the Directorate of Dairy Development at Khanapara in Guwahati on Monday.

He said that after a long period of 22 years, dairy technologists have been appointed in the Dairy Development Department. The minister pointed out that the department would be equipped with the appropriate human resources and the new technology would be used to achieve the desired goals. He said that the amount of milk required for the State in 2019-20 was 2,688 million litres. In contrast, Assam produced only 970 million liters of milk this year.

In his speech, Bora mentioned that there is a need to motivate the cattle breeders to strengthen their economic position by producing milk from a commercial point of view. He called upon the newly-appointed Dairy Technologists to work in a spirit of service to make the State’s dairy sector stronger. In response to a query about the employment in the agriculture department, the Agriculture Minister said that the department was thinking of appointing agriculture development officer and recruitment of agricultural engineers.

On the same day, Atul Bora inaugurated the Knowledge Centre and Farmers Training Building and the City Milk Supply Scheme organization committee building at the Directorate of Dairy Development. He also laid the foundation stone of the Multi Blay Milk Mall.
