Guwahati News Desk: A Nigerian High Commission seeks Meghalaya government for the release of 12 Nigerian nationals who were arrested by Meghalaya Police.

Nigerian High Commission Betrand Tochukwu Ikwuka met up Meghalaya Prison Minister A L Hek and sought for the release who illegally entered India crossing the international border from Bangladesh.

The Nigerians were lodged in Shillong and Jowai district prisons.

High Commission Betrand Tochukwu Ikwuka said, “We are waiting for the release orders of Meghalaya government or the Ministry of External Affairs. The Nigerian government does not support any crime carried out by them as the nationals do not know where Bangladesh ends and Indian borders begin.”

The Ministry of External Affairs will take necessary actions for deporting the Nigerian nationals to their country.

According to the sources, the Nigerian government have arrested around 22 agents in their country for sending people without brief knowledge about the law of the travelling country.
