Guwahati News Desk: The World Food Programme on Friday was honoured with Noble Peace Prize 2020 for its outstanding effort to fight hunger and improve conditions in areas affected by conflict.
The winner was unveiled in Oslo, Norway.
WFP has been honoured for feeding millions of people from Yemen and North Korea during the global pandemic.
The UN organization founded in 1961, distributed 15 billion rations to 97 million people belonging to 88 countries last year.
Nobel committee chairwoman Berit Reiss-Andersen on revealing the winner today said, the WFP was honoured for “its efforts to combat hunger, for its contribution to bettering conditions for peace in conflict-affected areas and for acting as a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict”.
