Guwahati News Desk: Notorious crime figure of Assam Bubu Konwar, who was wanted for multiple crimes was killed in an encounter with the Sivasagar Police at Geleki Deopani near the Assam-Nagaland border on Wednesday night.
The incident took place at around 6.45 in the evening when Babu showed up for an arms deal. A huge contingent of police was deployed and also laid a trap to nab him, but two individuals in a two-wheeler suddenly open fire at the police. During the fire exchange, the 45-year-old Babu got severely injured and later was pronounced dead in hospital.
After the exchange of fire and successfully putting down the notorious criminal, the Sivasagar Police recovered a 7.6 mm pistol, one magazine, five live ammunition, bullets, and a scooter.
According to the sources, Bubu was involved in more than 42 murders which include the murder of a popular businessman Kailash Ginoriya of Jorhat, a car driver Dhiraj Talukdar of Noonmati, youth Congress leader Hemanta Barua of Amguri, and a school teacher of Jorhat.
A total of 50 cases were registered across the State against the dreaded criminal including 27 car stealing cases.
Earlier, in the year 2015, Latashil Police put all their effort in arrest Konwar but he successfully escaped in a taxi and later killed the driver on the way.
The killing of the dreaded criminal by the Sivasagar Police is a big success for the police department.
