Guwahati News Desk: The Telangana Forest Department has recently informed, that there are 14 tigers in the Amrabad Tiger Reserve (ATR), as against the 12 recorded in 2019.
The information was revealed in the annual wildlife census report of the ATR released by the department on Friday.
The Amrabad reserve is now the home to the highest population of tigers in the State.
According to an official, the latest findings on the presence of the big cats cameout during the phase-IV monitoring carried out in 2020-21.
The phase-IV monitoring is successfully being conducted as part of the exercise in every tiger reserve across the country.
As per the reports, the estimation of prey population density (spotted deer, Sambar, Nilgai, wild pigs, four-antler antelope and chinkara, among others) is done by the Line Transect estimation method. The monitoring and estimation would provide the managers of the protected area an idea on issues, such as, prey-predator densities, prey densities and tiger movements for management intervention.
In 2021, a census on water holes too was conducted in the tiger reserve, whose findings indicated that the early hours and the evening hours were the time, when the ungulates came out to drink.
The annual census report was formally released by Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, R. Sobha, in the presence of senior officers like PCCF (SF), R.M Dobrial, PCCF (Campa), Lokesh Jaiswal, PCCF (Admin & Vigilance) Swargam Srinivas, Addl PCCF (Production), Siddananad Kukeratty, and others.
According to the annual census report released by the Forest Department on Friday, a total of 43 species of wildlife have been recorded.
