Guwahati News Desk: The “enhanced range version” of the indigenously-built surface-to-surface Babur cruise missile was successfully test-fired by Pakistan on Tuesday.
The army said in a statement on Tuesday, “Pakistan today conducted a successful test of an enhanced range version of the indigenously developed Babur Cruise Missile 1B.”
In addition, the new version can strike targets up to 900 kilometres, twice the distance of an earlier missile of the same model.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Tuesday’s launch was witnessed by Strategic Plans Division Director General Lieutenant General Nadeem Zaki Manj, National Engineering and Scientific Commission Chairman Dr Raza Samar and Commander Army Strategic Force Command Lieutenant General Muhammad Ali.
Meanwhile, President Dr Arif Alvi, Prime Minister Imran Khan, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and the services chiefs congratulated the scientists and engineers on the successful launch.
In addition, the director general of the Strategic Plans Division congratulated the scientists and engineers on “achieving excellence in the domain of cruise missile technology and expressed his full confidence that this test will further strengthen Pakistan’s strategic deterrence.”
Regarding the earlier version of Babar cruise missile launched by Pakistan, it had the limited capacity to strike targets up to 450 kilometres.
Moreover, regular tests are conducted by Pakistan in order to test its weapons.
