Guwahati News Desk: A total of 4,512 new COVID-19 cases were reported in West Bengal on Saturday.
With Saturday’s update, West Bengal has now become the the third-highest in the country after Maharashtra and Kerala, with the number of active cases rising upto 13,300.
Moreover on Sunday, West Bengal reintroduced certain restrictions including the closing of schools and colleges. Apart from educational institutions, swimming pools, gyms, spas, salons, and wellness centres will also remain closed.
The reintroduced restrictions further include of night curfew with the timings being from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., with essential services being exempted from the curfew timings.
In addition, the shopping malls can stay open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., but crowds must be at 50 percent.
According to the recently released order, cinema halls, restaurants, and bars shall function at 50 percent capacity and up to 10 p.m.
The Chief Secretary of Bengal, HK Dwivedi, said, “Government and private offices can work at 50 percent capacity, with all administrative meetings to be conducted virtually.”
Meanwhile, Kolkata Metro services have been capped at 50 percent capacity, with the local trains allowed to run only till 7 p.m. However, this will not affect the long-distance trains that will be running as per schedule.
Regarding the gatherings for marriages and other social, religious, cultural occasions, it will also be limited to 50 persons, while those for funerals or burials will be limited to only 20.
Furthermore, 20 separate cases of the rapidly spreading Omicron strain have also been reported in Bengal.
