Guwahati News Desk: The photographer of a Sipajhar violence incident Bijoy Baniya was arrested by Assam Police immediately after a video of him went viral in the social media seen jumping and attacking a protestor who was later reportedly to be death on Thursday.
The photographer Bijoy Baniya was taken under CIDâs custody. During the eviction drive conducted a massive violation took place at Dholpur no 3 areas at Sipajhar in Darrang district on Thursday.
During the eviction drive, the protestors tried to attack police personnel with sharp weapons and stones as Police personnel immediately resort to using tear gas, lathi charge and rubber bullets. Police also shoot live rounds in the air to control the harsh situation against the protestors.
During the clash in the eviction a protestor was seen chasing a photographer while a team of police personnel stopped the protestor. Later protestor laid on the ground as the photographer who was identified as Bijoy Shankar Baniya was seen jumped on the chest of the protestor and punched him brutally which video went viral in the social media.
Seeing the incident Police personnel immediately stopped the photographer from attacking the protestor but he attacked severely wounded protestor one by one. The photographer let many protestor injured.
At least two protestors were killed in the massive incident were identified as Saddam Hussain and Sheikh Farid as eight were reported to be injured. Two police personnel Amiya Gogoi and Manash Pratim Baruah were reported to be injured.
The eviction drives were conducted to free 4500 bighas of government land which were illegally occupied by around 800 families.
