Guwahati News Desk: Addressing the media on Pegasus row outside the Parliament in New Delhi on Friday, the Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi, accused the Home Minister and the Prime Minister of committing treason and further demanded Amit Shah’s resignation and judicial inquiry against the Prime Minister.
Rahul stated, “The Prime Minister and Home Minister have used this against the Indian state and against our institutions. This has to be investigated and the home minister must resign.”
While addressing the media, Rahul claimed that he is not a potential target but “every single phone of his is definitely tapped.”
Rahul further added, “I get phone calls from IB (Intelligence Bureau) people who tap my phone. They call me up and say beware we are tapping you. My security people tell me that they have to debrief what I say to their seniors.”
Talking about his phone being tapped, Rahul said it was not just about the breach of his privacy but was an attack on the people whose voices he raises.
He further claimed that the government has used the spyware against the Supreme Court, as well as, against the former Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director, Alok Verma when a case was about to be registered in the Rafale deal.
The Congress leader added, “The real question is why on the last minute when the CBI Director was about to file an FIR, why was his phone tapped and why was he blackmailed? And who did it? That’s the real question.”
The press conference of the Congress leader was followed by protests done by the opposition members including, Congress, DMK and Shiv Sena, over the Pegasus snooping controversy.
According to sources, the protest marches were held in different states over the “blatantly unconstitutional and ruthless phone hacking incidents.”
