Guwahati News Desk: The State Government has decided to create around 2,000 new posts of mandals and divide the very vast lats (areas covered by each of the mandals) into two. These two policy decisions aim at decreasing the workload on mandals to speed up land-related service delivery.

It has come to notice that the workloads on mandals in the revenue circle offices are heavy. And a section of mandals takes some undue advantages and harasses people in land-related works on the pretext of their ‘staggering workload’. It often leads to corruption.

Revenue and Disaster Management (R&DM) Department sought proposals from deputy commissioners for creating new posts of Mandal. The deputy commissioners submitted their proposals and are under scrutiny now.

R&DM Minister Jogen Mohan said, “Smooth service delivery system is one of the thrust areas under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.”

“It has come to our notice that a Mandal has to see land-related works in his lat. He also has to go for relief duty during floods and other emergencies. All these make the workload staggering for him. We have discussed it in the Cabinet. Maybe, we are going to create around 2,000 new posts of mandals to ease the situation.”

“Already 200 candidates qualified for mandals are undergoing training. They will get their appointments upon completion of their training. That will ease the situation to an extent. “Some of the lats are very big. We have taken a policy decision to divide each of them into two.”
