Guwahati News Desk: The Income Tax sleuths raided the offices of the Lohia Group at Christian Bast and Fancy Bazar. The IT team also carried out a raid in the residence of Kailash Lohia, the chairman of the Lohia Group of companies.
According to sources, the raids were carried out on the basis of complaints regarding huge tax evasion against Kailash Chandra Lohia and his group of companies. Sources said the Income Tax officers’ team came from Kolkata.
Kailash Chandra Lohia and his Topcem Cement make headlines from time to due to wrong reasons. On March 23, 2021, the Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Assam summoned Kailash Chandra Lohia, chairman of Topcem Cement, to appear before his court in connection with a complaint on ‘deprivation of rights’ of persons with disabilities.
Pratibandhi Suraksha Sangsha, Assam, on March 15 registered a complaint against Topcem Cement and Rotary Club of Guwahati Luit for denying rights to access toilets to people with disabilities in a government school in Guwahati.
The Indian Bureau of Mines, which is the National Technical Regulator of the mining sector, ‘disapproved’ the mining plan of Meghalaya Cements Ltd, the producer of Topcem Cement, for the period 2021-22 to 2025-26.
PK Bhattacharjee, Regional Controller of Mines of the Indian Bureau of Mines informed Kailash Chandra Lohia, director of Meghalaya Cements Ltd that the review of the Mining Plan for South Khliehjri limestone mine has not been approved.
