Guwahati News Desk: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the newly built cricket ground and pavilion at Amingaon in North Guwahati today. The infrastructure was developed by the Assam Cricket Association as a part of their ongoing cricket infrastructure development project. The ground will host its first BCCI approved domestic match (U-25 Men’s One Day) which will be played between Meghalaya and Sikkim tomorrow.
Addressing the gathering Chief Minister today advised the Assam Cricket Association to set up a State of the Art Cricket Academy which will be used to train the local talents. He also felt that the Assam Cricket Association should take steps so that promising cricketers, if necessary, can get training in top level cricket academies of the country.
Sarma in his speech also highlighted the initiative taken by the State Government to promote sports in the State. “An international standard stadium will soon come up at Chandrapur locality, outskirt of the city, with a cost of Rs 150 crore. On the other hand, construction work of several new sports infrastructures across the state are going on simultaneously and these will be ready for use very soon,” said Sarma.
Chief Minister also faced a few balls during the inauguration of the ground. The function was also attended by Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Bimal Borah, Housing & Urban Affairs Minister Ashok Singhal, Joint commissioner of Police (Guwahati City) Partha Sarathi Mahanta, president and secretary of the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) Romen Dutta and Devejit Saikia respectively along with several other members of the ACA.
In a brief speech Devajit Saikia said, “It’s a red-letter day for ACA. We have already taken a series of steps to develop cricket infrastructure across the State and Amingaon was part of it. Another 18 similar infrastructures will come up in various parts of Assam within the next 8 months.”
Moreover, in the U-25 Men’s One Day meet Nagaland will take on Manipur at Nehru Stadium while Mizoram will face Arunachal Pradesh at ACA Stadium, Barsapara on Wednesday.
