Guwahati News Desk: At least 1027 tourists who were stranded in several parts of Sikkim, were successfully rescued by the Indian Army on Sunday.
According to reports, starting from December 25 onwards, parts of East Sikkim bordering China – Nathu La and Tsomgo rceived severe snowfall that further resulted in vehicles and tourists being stranded in the region.
A statement was released by the Indian Army that read as, “On 25 Dec 2021, approx 1027 tourists who had been stuck in the upper reaches of East Sikkim near the China Border at Nathu La following heavy snow on Saturday were rescued by the Indian Army.”
In addition, the tourists were rescued in army vehicles and were eventually shifted to a military camp located near 17 Mile. Also along with being rescued, the tourists were provided with accommodation, hot meals, warm clothing and critical medical support.
Moreover, due to the occurrence of severe snowfall in areas of Nathu La, Tsomgo Lake and the other adjoining areas on Saturday afternoon, the temperature was brought to sub Zero levels.
Furthermore, after the government of Sikkim opened its doors for tourists, several parts of North and East Sikkim, has seen a huge number of tourists thronging the states.
