Guwahati News Desk: A leading food delivery company Swiggy’s delivery boy brutally murdered a restaurant owner due to a dispute over a delay in order at Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday.
The 38-year-old restaurant owner was shot dead at his restaurant Zam Zam located at Mitra Enclave in Greater Noida. The incident took place at around 12.15 am as the delivery boy was found fighting and arguing with the restaurant workers over the delay of order.
The victim was identified as Sunil Agarwal who was a residence of Dadri. The incident took place after the owner trying to resolve an argument with a food delivery agent. According to the sources, all the three delivery agents were drunk and one of the delivery agents opened fire and killed him.
Soon after the incident, the Greater Noida police immediately rushed on the spot and arrested the three delivery agents into custody.
At the time of the incident, the accused Vishal Pandey and 10 delivery agents visited the restaurant to collect 15 orders from the restaurant at around 12.15 am and later they had an argument with one of the restaurant worker Narayan over delay of delivery however, the owner intervened between them in no time, a bullet hit Agarwal in the head. Sunil was declared brought dead when taken to Yatharth Hospital.
In the statement issued by Swiggy said: “What has been reported is very concerning. We have reached out to the concerned authorities to help verify the identity of the individual involved in this heinous incident and if such person was associated with Swiggy. All delivery partners on Swiggy are on-boarded for providing delivery services after a background verification which includes checking for any court cases or criminal antecedents and are not disincentivised for any delays.”
