In the latest episode, mother and son from Kolkata identified as Debjani Sarkar and Roshan Sarkar who appeared to be from a decent family were travelling from Dharmanagar bound for Guwahati in a taxi. They could dodge past the well-known ever vigilant check gate of Churaibari on Assam-Tripura border from Tripura. Their trouble started after reaching Karimganj as the driver felt something fishy and sought the help of some drivers. He parked the car near the ASTC bus stand. Karimganj police on receiving information detained the mother and the son and seized from them huge quantity of opium or ganja.
The duo was taken to police station and after interrogation and preliminary investigation as well as legal proceedings were sent to jail. Details about their antecedents, movement and quantity of opium seized were not shared with the media by police. Public demand more stringent laws to curb the growing murky business.
