Guwahati News Desk: The Assam Government has decided to rename certain areas of Guwahati City. The decision was taken in order to mark India’s celebration of the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsab’. The decision was taken in Friday’s Cabinet Meeting. Areas like Sarabhati, will be replaced with new names. Details are expected to be shared soon by the Government.
On the other hand, the State Government has passed an amendment to the Cattle Protection Bill already. In the Cabinet Meeting today, it was decided that, there will be a complete ban on the transportation of cattle in the districts along International borders. However, transportation will be allowed from one district to another if it doesn’t share any international borders.
Alongside the areas of Guwahati city, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma appears to be preparing himself for embarking on a renaming spree in the state.
The BJP-ruled Assam will launch a government portal for seeking suggestions, proposals from the citizens on the issue of the name change of village, street, and other places. The portal will be opened for citizens for the next two months.
Based on the suggestions received from citizens, the deputy commissioner of each district will decide on the name change of the place.
