Guwahati News Desk: The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption sleuths on Friday apprehended an officer of Assam government’s revenue department for taking bribe. The arrested official, identified as Debananda Bora, was caught red-handed while accepting bribe. Bora has worked in the Hojai Revenue Circle office in Assam. In this regard, a case has also been registered against Bora and further investigation is going on.

GP Singh, Assam’s special DGP, confirmed the development and said via Twitter, “At the Hojai Revenue Circle office, one Lat Mondal Debananda Bora was caught red-handed accepting bribe money by @DIR VAC ASSAM (directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption, Assam). On Twitter, GP Singh said, “A case has been started for further investigation.”

Earlier, in this year, a similar incident took place where, a government official in Guwahati was arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000. The accused, a deputy director of the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department, allegedly requested money in exchange for permission to transport three cows from Alipurduar, West Bengal, to his farm in Kokrajhar.

According to Assam police Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Rajib Saikia, the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Kokrajhar district received a complaint that the complainant owning a dairy farm wanted to bring three milch cows to his farm from Alipurduar. He approached Dr Bhuyan for the necessary transit permit for the purpose.

The sleuths recovered the bribe amount from Dr Bhuyan in the presence of independent witnesses.
