Guwahati News Desk: Two illegal band saw mills have been seized by the Forest Range Officer at Barpeta Road in Barpeta district on Monday.
The band saw mills were detected by Forest Range Officer and his personnel operating at Banglai village falling under Sarbhog Beat Office and brought to the departmental safe custody.
The Assam Environment and Forest Minister Parimal Sukkabaidya had issued strict directives to the officials to the forest department to intensify the drive against the illegal band saw mills.
The illegally operating saw mills have been dismantled by the department.
Earlier, on June three illegal band saw mills have been shut down by Kamrup West Forest Division at Champupara in Kamrup rural district as the mills were shut down and all the machines were seized by the officials.
The operation was led by the Divisional Forest Officer of Kamrup West and his personnel.
Previously, another raid was carried by the Forest Range Officer of Hajo and the protection squad personnel as one illegal saw mill was seized with machines at Kalitakuchi Chowk in Hajo.
