Guwahati News Desk: Inquiry Officer cum DFO of Dhansiri Forest Division Naba Kumar Bordoloi submitted a complaint against the killing of egrets at Tangla which lead to the arrest of Santana Das, the CEO of Udalguri Town and Country Planning and EO, Tangla Municipal Board, Sadanda Sahari, JE of Tangla Municipal Board Milton Sangma, the driver.

Three accused have been arrested regarding the killing of egrets and were sent to judicial custody on Thursday.

They arrested under Section 55 of Wildlife Protection Act of 1972 were produced at the CJM Court in Udalguri and sent to judicial custody.

More than 200 egrets died due to wilful destruction of nests by way of felling of bamboo grooves that were providing shelter to the birds with fledglings in Ward No 1 and 2 in Tangla town of Udalguri district on June 24.

Additional PCCF Wildlife and Chief Wildlife Warden M K Yadava had appointed Naba Kumar Bordoloi as inquiry officer under the provision of Section 50 (8) of the Wildlife Protection Act 1972 for investigating the death of species of birds scheduled under the said Act on June 25.

Chief Wildlife Warden Yadava asked the inquiry officer to ensure filing a complaint against the accused in the appropriate court of law under Section 55 of Wildlife Protection Act 1972 on completion of investigations.

Yadava asked Bordoloi to submit his investigation report as per law within seven days.
