Guwahati News Desk: With zero streetlights on a 7-km stretch of the Jalukbari-Azara Link Road, motorists are facing a tough time commuting during the night. Residents from the surrounding areas, who use this road regularly, have repeatedly raised the issue with the authorities concerned, but they allege that nothing has been done yet.
The Jalukbari-Azara link road is one of major road that connects with the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport but as there are no lights, commuters, especially bikers, find it very difficult to use this road. Heavy rains can make it much more dangerous.
In this four-lane road, rash driving is a nightmare creating problem for vehicles coming out from the bylanes. Recently, a girl riding a scooter lost her life due to the dark streets after got hit by a truck at night in Satmile. Accidents have become a common affair for the commuters in this link road; however no actions have been taken to fix the issue.
The dark stretch has also become a threat to the safety of women as well. Women working round the clock while commuting this road at night might face serious circumstances all because of the carefree attitude of the concerned authority.
