Guwahati News Desk: In an effort to support the Afghan security forces fighting the Taliban insurgents, the United States in the last several days, was seen carrying out airstrikes across Afghanistan.

Although, the US-led foreign forces are carrying out the final stages of their withdrawal from Afghanistan, yet the US continued to launch the air strikes, in order to showcase their support towards the Afghan government forces who have been under pressure from the Taliban.

Pentagon Press Secretary, John Kirby, told reporters on Thursday at a news conference, “Without speaking to specifics, I can say that in the last several days, we have acted through airstrikes to support the ANDSF (Afghan National Defense and Security Forces) but I won’t get into tactical details of those strikes.”

Referring to an agreement between the United States and the Taliban clearing the way for the withdrawal of US forces, Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid stated, “We confirm these air strikes and we condemn this in strongest term, it is a clear attack and violation of the Doha deal as they can’t have operations after May.”

Meanwhile, almost all US troops, except those protecting the embassy in Kabul and the capital’s airport, have left the country.

As per the sources, the commander of US forces in the region, would retain the authority to call for airstrikes in support of Afghan forces until the US withdrawal from Afghanistan was complete.

According to a defence official, the US military has carried out approximately six or seven strikes in the past 30 days, mostly using drones to launch the strikes.

The official added, that the strikes targeted captured military equipment that the Taliban had seized from the ANDSF and also targeted the enemy forces and enemy personnel.
