Guwahati News Desk: As stated by administration, 36 people died in Mahad tehsil of Raigad district in Maharashtra after multiple landslides occurred in the area on Thursday evening.
Over the last two days, Maharashtra’s Raigad district has been witnessing heavy rainfall, that resulted in the death of the 36 people.
The heavy downpour has caused severe flooding in parts of the coastal region and has also hit the road and rail traffic.
The National Disaster Response Team (NDRF) immediately rushed its teams to the affected areas in the Raigad district.
As per the sources, 32 bodies were found in one spot in Talai, four others were recovered from another location in Sakharsutarwadi village. Although, 15 people have been reportedly rescued so far, but over 30 to 35 more are feared to be trapped under the debris.
Home Minister Amit Shah called on Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and assured him of complete cooperation and help from the Centre in tackling the flood situation.
Regarding the ongoing scenario, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “Anguished by the loss of lives due to a landslide in Raigad, Maharashtra. My condolences to the bereaved families. I wish the injured a speedy recovery.”
PM Modi added, “The situation in Maharashtra due to heavy rains is being closely monitored and assistance is being provided to the affected.”
Rahul Gandhi also tweeted saying, “My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. I appeal to Congress workers to assist in relief and rescue work. Rains continue to cause disaster and disruptions in many parts of Maharashtra. Please stay safe.”
