Guwahati News Desk: India likely to start vaccination for children from September, as announced by All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) Chief Dr Randeep Guleria on Saturday.
Dr Guleria also added that under-18 vaccination is very important to move to break the chain of COVID-19 transmission.
According to the sources, for children vaccination, Covaxin by Bharat Biotech trials should be over by the month of August or September. Meanwhile, the Zydus vaccination has already completed its trial and waiting for emergency authorization.
Hopefully by the month of September, India should start vaccinating the children which would be a big boost as far as breaking the chain of transmission, said AIIMS Chief Dr Guleria.
India has vaccinated over 42 crore doses so far while the government of India has aimed to vaccinated all the adults by the end of this year. India is yet to clear the vaccine for children as its waiting for emergency authorisation.
Dr Guleria said, the most worry this is to allow children to go to school which may increase the risk of getting the infection as it’s important for India to protect the children as well as to break the chain to transmission.
