Guwahati News Desk: The online sale of liquor to be enabled only within the area that falls under Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) with immediate effect in Guwahati City.
The notification was brought into effect by Principal Secretary of Excise Department Rajesh Prasad on Tuesday. The first phase of the online sale of liquor is limited to the GMC area only as later the areas might be extended by the Excise authorities.

The government of Assam has developed an application for the online sale and purchase of liquor across the city, as the notification mentions a number of guidelines for online sale, purchase, and home delivery of liquor in Guwahati.
For the online purchase and delivery of liquor, retailers have to register themselves on the App for sale. It was mentioned that eligible customers can purchase liquor up to three litres at a time.
Meanwhile, a delivery executive can carry a maximum of 9 litres of alcohol at once for delivery as mentioned in the notification.
The home delivery of alcohol shall be done between 11 am to 10 pm subject to compliance with lockdown orders or restrictions issued by the authorities. It was also mentioned that all the placed orders of online home delivery would be completed within two hours of time from the time of placing an order.
Both the customers and delivery executives should be above 21 years of age to avail the benefits of the service for which necessary documents need to be uploaded in the App in a mandatory manner to prevail the online delivery service and to prove the eligibility.
Within 1 km of radius, the delivery charge will be Rs 50 and the location increased between 1 km to 2 km would charge Rs 75 per order delivery.
