Guwahati News Desk: Vice President of India M Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated
the Mahabahu Brahmaputra River Heritage Centre in Guwahati City on Sunday.
The center was inaugurated in presence of Chief Minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs and Irrigation Ashok Singal.
The old residence of DC which was constructed by British in the mid 19th century on the banks of river Brahmaputra has been converted into a river heritage centre for the public.
Vice President of India M Venkaiah Naidu made his three-day visit to Assam and Meghalaya as he arrived Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoiloi International (LGBI) Airport as he was received by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday.
After the inauguration of the Brahmaputra River Heritage Centre the Vice President will be visiting the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for the inauguration of PET MRI machine which was newly installed by the health department in the hospital.
Later today, Vice President Naidu will visit to Srimanta Shankardev Kalashetra at 4:30 pm to attend the award ceremony of Gopinath Bordoloi Award 2021.
Later on Monday the Vice President will be visit the capital city of Meghalaya.
The DC bungalow was renovated and updated as one of the tourist destination in Guwahati city with a cost worth Rs 9 crore.
Earlier, the government has decided to restore the bungalow in 2021 but it was transformed into a heritage centre in Guwahati.
The Brahmaputra River Heritage Centre will attracted many tourist across the State and country as it is situated in the banks of river Brahmaputra as it will be one of the most beautiful tourist site of Guwahati City.
After India received independence from the British rule the historical bungalow that was left was officials declared as the residence of the DC.
