Guwahati News Desk: After beating Ireland by eight wickets in a first round match in Sharjah on Friday, Namibia finally seals a spot in the Super 12 of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Friday’s game was a virtual knock-out tie for both the teams, as the winning team would be qualified for the Super 12s stage.
Initially, Namibia’s approach to the chase raised a few eyebrows, as they went against the norm of batting at Sharjah, choosing to preserve their wickets instead of going for it in the Powerplay. But the end result turned out to be victorious for the team.
In addition, a lot happened in the 7th over that perhaps changed the dynamic of the match in favour of Namibia, and also it was David Wiese of the Namibian team who turned out to be the player of the match.
Regarding Ireland’s batting, initially they gave a very fruitful Powerplay.
The opening pair of Kevin O’Brien and Paul Stirling gave the match a flying start as they laid down a solid formation for the rest of the batters. In addition, the pair racked up 55 runs in the Powerplay.
However, soon after, both slipped out and there was a drop in the run flow. From thereon they lost the plot and kept losing wickets. In the end, the total was just not enough for the Irish bowlers to defend and eventually the team crashed out of the tournament.
Moreover, even Ireland’s bowling display was not that satisfactory in Friday’s match.
Meanwhile, regarding the ongoing match between Sri Lanka and Netherlands, it is currently taking place at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah.
In the ongoing match Netherland’s score is 44, while Sri Lanka’s is 25/1 and they require 20 runs in 93 balls to win.
