Guwahati News Desk: With more and more smartphone brands entering the electric vehicles (EV) business, the Chinese smartphone major “Xiaomi” announced on Tuesday, that the company aims to begin mass production of its electric vehicles by 2024.

As announced by the smartphone company, it will commence production of its EV models in the first half (H1) of the year 2024.

The announcement was made by the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Lei Jun at an investor day meeting.

In addition, the news was also later confirmed by a director in Xiaomi’s international marketing department, Zang Ziyuan, who posted the news on his verified Weibo account.

As per the sources, it was by late August, when the company had officially registered its new electric vehicle business, Xiaomi EV Inc and had even hired about 300 people to work in the firm.

In addition, Xiaomi EV plans to set up its first plant for the mass production of electric vehicle cars in a Beijing suburb- Yizhuang.

Meanwhile, as the electric vehicle brand is headed by CEO Lei himself. Hence, commenting on the developments, Lei Jun said, “The release of an electric car is not a PR stunt. It so happened that cars from ordinary means of transportation have turned into smart and technological devices. The advent of the electric car is another step in building your own ecosystem, where everything is focusing on comfort and improving the user experience.”

However, it is not yet revealed whether Xiaomi EV will manufacture its electric vehicles independently or via a partnership with an automaker who has more knowledge on the matter.
