Guwahati News Desk: YouTube announced through a blog post, on Tuesday, that it has signed a definitive agreement to buy the video shopping app called “Simsim”, as it looks to help discover and buy products from Indian retailers.
However, the terms of the acquisition were not disclosed yet.
Regarding Simsim, it is a short video shopping platform in India that enables e-commerce through videos.
In a more elaborate manner, Simsim enables creators to make videos of products, so that the viewers can then buy those products from local businesses, through the Simsim platform.
Video-driven e-commerce is a growing category in the recent times. Hence, with the acquisition of Simsim, YouTube says it aims to help small businesses and retailers in India to reach new customers.
According to the blog post by YouTube, the Simsim application will continue operating independently, while YouTube looks to work on other ways to showcase Simsim offers to its viewers.

Just like Instagram, which is a popular platform for small businesses to sell products online, YouTube too plans to build an online video commerce in a similar manner, with the Simsim acquisition.
