Guwahati News Desk: A total of 3,439 militants surrendered in Assam since 2016, says Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday.

The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) and National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) are banned at present in Assam as the Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO) is also active, says CM Sarma.

A total of 1,306 arms; 20,722 ammunitions, 89 bombs, 599 grenades and 121.72 kg of explosives have seen seized by the administration says CM Sarma replying to Bharatiya Janata Party, MLA Biswajit Phukan.

The government of Assam has taken all positive and special steps to rehabilitate the militants who have surrendered by giving up arms. The government has provided financial assistance of Rs 6 thousand every months with a fixed deposit of Rs 4 lakh under the Centre’s Surrender-cum-Rehabilitation Scheme of Northeast Militants, says the CM

According to the sources, skill development training was also provided to 1,800 surrendered militants and 1,192 of them received an amount of Rs 1 lakh to start some livelihood project for economic and social development.
Similar training programmes were also planned for the NDFB militants in the districts outside the Bodoland Territorial Region.

CM Sarma also added that currently government is holding talks with other 11 militants groups i.e. ULFA, United Kukigam Defence Army (UKDA), Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA), Adivasi People’s Army (APA), Hmar People’s Convention-Democratic (HPC-D) and all the All Adivashi National Liberation Army (AANLA).
