Guwahati News Desk: The 46 years old pending construction Dhansiri Irrigation Project will be completed by the end of the financial year 2022, as informed by the Assembly on Friday.
According to the sources, the government has decided that an interlinked 20MW Dhansiri Hydroelectric Power Project work which was suspended in the year 1996 will not be revived.
The estimated cost of the construction work of the Dhansiri Irrigation Project is Rs 15.83 crore and has escalated to Rs 567.05 crore, said by State Irrigation Minister Ashok Singhal in Assembly. So far Rs 444.18 crore has been spent on the project.
According to the sources, the construction of the project started in the year 1975 which create an irrigation potential of 77,230 hectares annually and out of which 38,615 hectares are in the Udalguri district.
In the assembly Minister Ashok Singhal said due to several reasons, the Dhansiri Irrigation Project project has not been completed yet but the government of Assam now has decided to complete the project by March 2022 and to take all necessary steps to complete the project as soon as possible which was kept pending in the last 46 years.
According to the sources, the physical progress of the project is at present 94 percent as the project was inter-linked with the Dhansiri Hydroelectric Power Project which has five chute falls constructed by the Irrigation Department.
