Guwahati News Desk: Seven women MPs aiming to serve new India, took oath on Wednesday, after being inducted into PM Narendra Modi’s new council of ministers.
According to sources, the new inductions were done by PM with a special focus of emphasizing on diversity and for the equal representation of all sections of the society, including, gender, caste, religion, etc.
This decision taken by the PM has somewhat helped in removing the criticisms made on the Modi cabinet, after the 2019 oath taking ceremony.
The criticism sparkeddue to the scanty and meager representation of women, as only three female cabinet ministers have been inducted during the time which included Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Nirmala Sitharam and Smriti Irani.
However, among the three, Kaur had resigned in 2020, in protest against the anti- farmer ordinances and legislation.
The newly reshuffled Modi 2.0 Union Council of Ministers includes 43 new and promoted faces, along with a wide range of youth and seven fresh female faces.
The list of the female ministers include the names, Shobha Karandlaje, Darshana Vikram Jardosh, Meenakshi Lekhi, Annapurna Devi, Pratima Bhoumik, Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar and Apna Dal’s Anupriya Singh Patel are the seven women who took oath as ministers of the state. Nirmala Sitharaman, Smriti Irani, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti and Renuka Singh Saruta are already a part of the Union council of ministers.
Sources have also stated that Modi could have created a record if he had added one woman into his team, as the Manmohan Singh government had 12 women ministers in 2013.
However, the Modi government holds the record of having six women Cabinet Ministers at a time.
