Guwahati News Desk: The All Assam Motor Shramik Joint Federation (AAMSJF) announced 24-hour chakka bandh on August 31 and September 1.
The bandh was announced in condemnation of killings of the five truck drivers who were burned along with the vehicles at Dima Hasao district in Assam last week.
The 24-hours chakka bandh will be commence from 5 am on Tuesday. According to sources, the AAMSJF also appealed to the State government to provide an assistance of Rs 15 lakh to each victimâs family as ex-gratia.
Earlier on last week, a massive bullet firing incident was witnessed at Ranger Bell in Dima Hasao as miscreants showered bullets at five trucks and later set one truck on fire. The incident took place in the early hours of Friday.
According to the sources, the trucks were heading towards Lanka from Umrangso. It has been suspected that the horrific incident was held by DNLF extremists.
Police officials immediately rushed to the spot where the firing took place and the truck has been burned down. The rescue team recovered the burning bodies from the truck and sent them to the nearest hospital but five people were reported to be dead on the spot.
