Ishita Bora: Assamese Filmmaker Arindam Barooah’s short film “Protyush (Ushering a Crack of Dawn)” is going to release on 23rd October 2020 on a digital platform MovieSaints.
The film is about the struggle of a woman against poverty, where her husband meets an untimely death. She was left with her two school-going children and the society offers her two choices, either succumb to her miseries and employ them as child labourers, which will make their life a bit easier or to take up a challenging path which rightly rejects the societal norms of rural India. Now, she must make a tough decision to feed her family.
“Protyush” has been written by Rita Bhuyan Barooah and directed by Arindam Barooah and is 12 minutes long.
The film stars Jahnobi Gogoi, Kironmoyee Borah, Rishav Ritam Gogoi, Anisha Dutta, Anupam Dutta, Manash Protim Chetia, Nayan Jyoti Deka, Jyoti Dutta, and Karabi Dutta.
“Protyush” already has bagged many awards, for Shothe Bestrt Film, Best Director & Best Editor at Borluit Short Film Festival – 19 in Jorhat; Special Festival Mention at 9th Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival-19 in Delhi; Honourable Jury Mention at 7th Noida International Film Festival- 20 in Noida; 3rd Best Short Film at 12th International Guwahati Film Festival 2019 in Guwahati, Special Mention at Asia South East – Short Film Festival at Phnom Penh, Cambodia; Official Selection at RapidLion – The South African International Film Festival – 2020 at Johannesburg, South Africa; Official Selection at First-Time Filmmaker Sessions in the United Kingdom; and so on.
