Guwahati News Desk: After the forming of the new government under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam Police has started its ‘War against Drugs’ since May and has broken down the backbone of the drugs peddlers across the State.
The government of Assam has unveiled data on Saturday from May 10 to June 22 of Assam against narcotics.
From May 10, a total of 1,253 drugs peddlers were arrested so far and 723 cases have been registered in the State.
Assam Police has recovered 16.728 kg of heroin worth Rs 33.45 crore in the international market. 6,859.216 kg of ganja seized by Assam Police market value worth Rs 34.29 crore.
10.28027 kg of opium market value of Rs 51.40 lakh, 1.9292 kg of morphine worth Rs 96.46 lakh, 3,314 kg of poppy straw worth Rs 6.628 crore and 3 kg Crystal Methamphetamine market value of Rs 4.5 crore seized by Assam Police.
On the other hand, 9,48736 illicit tablets and capsules worth Rs 47.43 lakh and 58,571 bottles of cough syrup market value of Rs 4.099 crore was also seized by Assam Police using the search operation launch against illicit drugs in the State.
During the war against drugs, Assam Police recovered cash of Rs 84,01,690 including 13,630 of foreign currency. 13,630 FICN also recovered.
Not only that, Assam Police destroyed 31 Bigha, 3 Katha and 12 Lessa cultivation of cannabis till now.
The notification released by the government of Assam has said a total market value of Rs 131.89 crore illicit drugs were seized by Assam Police in the State.
Regarding the success of the Assam Police drive against drugs, CM Sarma tweeted, “#DrugFreeAssam I am happy that Assam Police continue to pursue our mission of eliminating drugs cartel. My compliments to the Police for a spectacular job. Unearthing major rackets & nexus, the Police have seized narcotics worth Rs 131.89 cr in last 50 days”.
