Guwahati News Desk: In a blast that ripped through Paracha Chowk in Karachi’s Shershah area in Pakistan, at least 15 people were killed and several others severely injured on Saturday .
According to sources, the explosion occurred in a drain located below a bank. In addition, it has been suspected that the explosion was a result of the accumulation of gases in the drain underneath the building.
The administrator of Karachi Murtaza Wahab said in a tweet, “So far 15 people have died and 16 were brought injured to hospital.”
All those injured were taken to a hospital nearby where three were reported to be in very critical state.
The blast shattered windows of nearby buildings, severely damaged many parked vehicles, and a nearby petrol pump was also damaged in the explosion.
Meanwhile, a notice had been issued to vacate the premises so that the drain could be cleaned.
As informed by the police spokesman Sohail Jokhio, although the exact reason what ignited the gas has not been revealed, but a team of explosives experts had been summoned to investigate.
Moreover, there were also reports of several people being trapped under the debris, for which the area has been cordoned off and rescue operations are still underway.
