Guwahati News Desk: The All Assam Motor Transport Association (AAMTA) has decided to increase the bus fare by 50 per cent from September 1.

The announcement was made on Monday by the association, if the government do not meet their demands of increasing bus fare.

The demands also included financial assistance of the bus owners and drivers who were in complete loss due to COVID-19 pandemic since 2020.

All the buses owners and drivers were facing hard days since the beginning of the pandemic as limited passengers were allowed to travel amid the pandemic.

During the announcement AAMTA stated that once the government relax the inter-district movement, the bus fares will be increased from September 1.

According to the sources, the day and night super buses are likely to start from September 1.

AAMTA also urges government to increase the bus fare by 70 per cent or else they will immediately increase by 50 per cent if government won’t accent their demand.

The super buses and highway buses were suspended since four months amid COVID-19 pandemic due to banned of inter-district travel.

AAMTA also opposed the decision as government has still suspended the inter-district ban for buses but allowed only for private vehicles.

The association has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and State Transport Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary about the increase of fares as commercial buses business has been completely vanished during the pandemic as it has no other choice to increase the fare by 50 per cent and addition the duel prices has been hiked regularly which left no other steps.
