Guwahati News Desk: A prisoner who tested positive for COVID-19 and currently under going treatment at Diphu Medical College and Hospital in Karbi Anglong district of Assam has escaped on Saturday.
The prisoner was admitted to the COVID-19 ward in Diphu Medical College and Hospital on Thursday after tested positive as he was kept under police observation. But somehow in between the treatment the prisoner successfully fled from hospital.
According to the sources, he was arrested on June 12 and was caught red handed with huge quantity of drugs that were seized by Diphu Police from Matipung.
Nearly, 1142 drug peddlers were arrested by Assam Police across the State from May and 659 cases were registered by Assam Police to combat a fight against drug. Assam Police has started a tough fight against the peddlers and successfully breaking the chain supply of drugs.
According to the data provided by the Assam Chief Minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, 16.29 kg of heroin, 6687.25 kg of ganja, 6,42,447 Yaba tablets including other drugs were seized since May 10 which have a value in crores in the international market.
On the other hand, total cash worth Rs 79,91,060 were also seized at the time of operation against drugs.
