Guwahati News Desk: The government of Assam has declared a complete lockdown in three districts of Assam from June 28 due to continuously rising COVID-19 positive cases.
The announcement of lockdown was declared on Friday in Biswanath, Morigaon, and Goalpara. Bokakhat sub-division in Golaghat district was also added to the list of lockdown.
The total lockdown was imposed for one week starting from Monday as more than 220 hotspot areas were identified and have reported more than 10 new COVID-19 positive cases every day during the last seven days.
Assam’s Health and Family Welfare Minister Keshab Mahanta on Friday said, “There are 4,581 areas where several new COVID-19 positive cases were reported in the last one week as the areas were kept under complete observation over the rising cases.”
“The inter-district communication to remain suspended amid COVID-19 cases”, added Health Minister.
On Friday, the government of Assam has announced that the curfew timing in Kamrup Metro has been extended from 2 pm to 4 pm which too is imposed from June 28 looking at the declining cases in the district in the recent days. All the shops, market areas, business establishments, and offices remain open till 3 pm.
Meanwhile, in Hailakandi district the curfew timing was extended till 5 pm, and all the commercial establishments, shops, and offices to operate till 4 pm from Monday onwards.
In several districts like South Salmara, Charaideo, Dima Hasao, Bongaigaon, Majuli, West Karbi Anglong, and Udalguri curfew timings remain the same, i.e., from 5 pm to 5 am.
There will be no changes in the curfew timing in the remaining districts across the State as it will start from 1 pm and business establishment, offices, shops to shut down by 12 noon.
Health Minister Keshab Mahanta stated, “If any area report having more than 10 new COVID-19 cases can be added in the list of total lockdown”.
New 2,793 COVID-19 positive cases were reported as active cases reach 28,457 on Saturday. 1,39,105 COVID-19 tests were conducted in the State and 26 people died.
Kamrup Metro alone reported 165 new COVID-19 and 2 people died. Whereas Sonitpur reported 296 new cases, Golaghat with 241 cases, Jorhat with 188 cases, and Biswanath with 174 cases as the positivity rate of the state reduce to 2.01 per cent.
3,977 people recovered from COVID-19 as the recovery rate reaches 93.12 per cent.
