Guwahati News Desk: One of the biggest retail malls, popularly known as the Big Bazaar, was shut down in Guwahati and across the northeastern states after the giant Indian company Reliance purchased the Future Group.
Big Bazaar, including FBB, Guwahati Central and Easy Day was shut down on February 26 this year as the jobs of the working staff of Future Group were jeopardised. According to the sources, the administration of Reliance promised job security for the existing staff of Future Retail, urged the employees not to worry about their profile and provided appointment letters to its existing staff as to remain a part of Reliance Limited.
The officials of Reliance are currently vacating the fixed assets of Future Retail, including computers and furniture, and are disposing of them by selling products. After the purchase of Future Retails by Reliance, it will rebrand as Smart Bazaar in Guwahati.
An existing employee of the Retail group informed Hello Guwahati that “quite a number of staff have resigned after the absorption of the Future Retails by Reliance, as most of them were unhappy due to the sudden shut down of the retails. The sudden shutdown before the ending of the financial year 2021-2022 also hindered the salary increments of the employees, leading to disappointment.”
The Reliance Group is to relaunch Big Bazaar as ‘Smart Bazaar’ . The rebranding of FBB, Guwahati Central and Easy Day is yet to be declared.
