England earns super victory over WI, Aus beats SA: T20 World Cup

Guwahati News Desk: In the opening Super 12 Group 1 match of the ongoing T20 World Cup, Australia defeated South Africa by 5 wickets.

The match took place at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.

Chasing a target of 119, the Aaron Finch-led side won the game with two balls to spare.

In addition, Steve Smith top-scored for Australia with a 34-ball 35 while Marcus Stoinis chipped in with a 16-ball 24.

For South Africa, Anrich Nortje took two wickets while Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi got one each.

Moreover, the Australian bowlers kept taking wickets at regular intervals.

South Africa, on the other hand, showed plenty of fight in the field and took the game to the final over but it was not to be as Australia claimed victory.

In Saturday’s match between Australia and South Africa, it was Australia’s Josh Hazlewood, who became the ‘Player of the Match’.

In addition, Matthew Wade also remained unbeaten and played an important knock for his team.

The members of the Australian team included of Aaron Finch (c), David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade (wk), Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Adam Zampa and Josh Hazlewood.

The members of the South African team included of Quinton de Kock (wk), Temba Bavuma (c), Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Heinrich Klassen, Dwaine Pretorius, Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj, Anrich Nortje and Tabraiz Shamsi.

The final score of the match between Australia and South Africa mounted up to Australia’s being 121/5 (19.4) and South Africa’s being 118/9 (20.0).

Regarding the match between England and West Indies in the Super 12 game in the T20 World Cup, England won by six wickets.

The match took place at the Dubai International Stadium on Saturday.

The openers for team England were Jason Roy and Jos Buttler, and they started well in their chase of the 56-run target against West Indies.

England looked on course for a win despite losing Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow early to Ravi Rampaul and Akeal Hosein respectively. Akeal Hosein ended with figures of 2/24 while bowling in the power play but England looked relatively comfortable.

In addition, Morgan and Buttler helped England finish without further loss of any wickets as they chased down the target in 8.2 overs and registered a six-wicket win.

On the other hand, West Indies batters were swept away by the bowlers of team England, who showed them no mercy. As a result of which, team West Indies ended up losing six wickets for 44 runs in the first 10 overs itself.

In addition, Chris Woakes and Moeen Ali bowled superbly in the power play. However, Adil Rashid stole the limelight with four wickets in 14 balls and giving away only 2 runs to help his team dominate the opposition and restrict them to only 55 runs in 14.2 overs.

In Saturday’s match between England and West Indies, it was England’s Moeen Ali, who became the ‘Player of the Match’.

The members of team England included of Jason Roy, Jos Buttler (wk), Dawid Malan, Jonny Bairstow, Liam Livingstone, Eoin Morgan (c), Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, Chris Jordan, Adil Rashid and Tymal Mills.

The members of team West Indies included of Evin Lewis, Lendl Simmons, Chris Gayle, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran(w), Kieron Pollard(c), Andre Russell, Dwayne Bravo, Akeal Hosein, Obed McCoy and Ravi Rampaul.

The final score of the match between England and West Indies mounted up to England’s being 56/4 (8.2) and West Indies’s being 55 (14.2).
