Guwahati News Desk: “Winners never quit and quitters never win.” – Vince Lombardi
The quote above goes perfectly with Subhankar Banerjee, the Director of one of the leading Public Relation Company in India, Seven Sense Communication. Banerjee also a Director PRCI-YCC North East Chapter and General Secretary of Public Relation Council of India Guwahati Chapter.
In a conversation with Subhankar Banerjee, the Hello Guwahati team came to know many untold things about him.
So, let begin the interview:
1) First of all, I would like to know about your birthplace and something about yourself too.
I was born in Nagaon and brought up in Jokholabondha, Koliabor. I did my schooling from Jokholabondha and I did my college from Darrang college Tezpur and graduated (b.com) from there itself. Then I did my master’s in Mass Communication and Journalism at Assam University, Silchar.
2) So I would like to ask straight about your professional life and about Seven Sense Communications and your role in it.
So before I start my journey of Seven Sense Communication I would like to add few details like after completing Mass Communication I did a job in a very reputed Public Relations Agency in Delhi, then shifted to Mumbai. I have spent over 3 years both in Delhi and Mumbai. Then I decided to come back to my home state, Assam and the idea of Seven Sense Communication was already on my mind. As I always wanted to do something productive and Public Relations was my domain and expertise. So back in 2018, I founded my company Seven Sense Communication now it’s more than 3 years we have been working in this field of Public relations, Advertising, Marketing, and all kinds of promotion, creative work, content writing, and many more. I would also like to add that I am also the Director of the Public Relation Council of India (Northeast) chapter and Young Communicators Club (Northeast).
3) What was your inspiration behind the start-up of Seven Sense Communication?
It was more of a frustration pro-life because we are from such a beautiful place and also nature-loving, then all of a sudden I shifted to a metro city life where work culture and everything is incompatible. There was a daily loop of loneliness as there were no family and friends and above all, this was something going in my life, just work, room, and sleep. More of frustration but there was a plan that someday I would come back and put that plan in action and I inspired and motivated myself to open a startup. The name Seven Sense Communication didn’t come across my mind but I had the idea of working in a full freedom way then it started to progress slowly.
4) What are the current goals that your company is focused on and how does your team works in supporting to hit the goals and how it has been serving our society?
So basically, when I established my agency in 2018 we had this culture itself work from home mode as many of my employees are from Tezpur and Silchar and also from other parts of India as well. We all get together on Skype and Google to meet for our work to be done and this is the main setup of our business. So we have two main goals which we are progressing.
Firstly, to give quality service to our clients as in Northeast there are a couple of PR agencies but the scope of work is very limited.
Secondly, we also provide regular internships to the students from my institution. In the internship programs, we furnish proper crash courses and training regarding what things are needed to be done.
In the case of Public Relations, my team has been really motivating.
5) Who were the people who constantly motivated you behind your achievement?
If I say about people I have to mention my parents who never forced me and didn’t tell anything when I came back from Mumbai. Apart from that my wife has been my constant motivator and supported each and every decision that I have taken because as pandemic hit everyone hard as many people lost their jobs but we found out new techniques and ways to coupe up with. For example, if we talk about Public Relation we need to conduct a press conference but due to pandemic, it wasn’t possible to conduct offline. With the help of my wife and the team members, we did an online press conference in the month of June last year which was our massive success according to me. This is how we innovate ourselves in the field of Public Relations.
6) Behind every successful tale there are many hardships and challenges, so what was your biggest challenge?
In terms of Seven Sense Communication first I need to understand the nature of Public Relations in the Northeast because in cities like Delhi and Mumbai PR culture is already there but in Assam, it is slightly different. So my first challenge was to understand what people wanted second as I was alone founder and a sole trader without any partnership so I had to make my own decisions without having any surety whether I’m walking on the right path or not. But once we started working with team members and I started employing people and also started making groups around me the things became easier.
So basically, the hardships were to understand the market in terms of Public Relation and how to approach people and making them understand why Public Relations is significant.
7) What is your future planning regarding your agency?
As of now, I have started to collaborate with a couple of companies across India and also done consensus in Delhi where we will share our services. Also, I have a friend in Bangalore where we have exchanged our services, where we are trying to build join office across India and metro cities. So we can sit here in Guwahati and have clients from other states. I’m also trying to get clients from other states to come to Guwahati and work as I have a dream that we go in search of jobs in Delhi and Mumbai similarly I want people from Delhi and Mumbai to come to Guwahati and work with us.
8) So lastly, what would be your message to the youth for their start-ups?
So whenever the entrepreneurship or start-up things are there in our mind, “at every first you will not get the success all of a sudden. So we have to work hard on each and everything.” I too didn’t have clients for 3 months when I have started but I knew somewhere or other people will someday recognize me and will take my service. So my message is “a child doesn’t grow up in a month, it takes time and nourishment. Nobody becomes a star in a day for that we need to work hard, no matter whatever the start-ups are we need proper planning and we should have forecasting and also visualize yourself where are we going to be in next 2-3 years. Moreover, we shouldn’t copy past by seeing others work. We should have our own enthusiasm and give ourselves a year for our research and adequate planning.
We thank Subhankar Banerjee for this valuable time spent with us and we wish great success to him and his team.
