Buragohain was sent to the jail after the court rejected the plea of the police to keep him in their custody for more days.
However, the court allowed the police to interrogate him in the jail. The former Assam Cricket Association secretary was arrested recently on corruption charges at Tingkong in Dibrugarh. It has been alleged that Buragohain was involved in the misappropriation of Rs 50 crore of ACA funds in 3 years of his tenure.
After the end of the two days’ police custody, the cops produced him before the court on Sunday. The ACA constituted a 5-member accounts verification committee, headed by veteran sports organizer Jamshed Khan, to scrutinize the accounts and ascertain the allegations of misuse of funds. The accounts verification committee doubted misuse of at least Rs 50 crore of ACA funds in forms of booking hotel rooms, air ticket, food during cricket events, etc. The former secretary appeared before the committee and clarified his views on the alleged financial anomalies. However, the committee was not satisfied at his reply.
