Guwahati News Desk: The founder of giant anti-virus company McAfee, John McAfee was found dead inside his cell in a jail at Barcelona in Spain on Wednesday.
The 75-year-old was charged an extradition to the United States to face tax-related criminal charges by a Spanish Court.
Soon after McAfee was found dead, the jail’s medical team certified his death before the Spanish security officials tried to revive him.
According to the sources, the Span’s National Court ruled in favour of extraditing McAfee on Monday as he argued in a hearing earlier this month as all the charges against him by prosecutors in Tennessee were politically motivated and he would spend the rest of his life in prison if he returns to his home place in United States.
Earlier, the businessman McAfee was arrested at Barcelona’s International Airport in October in 2020 and had been in jail since then awaiting the outcome of extradition proceedings.
The criminal charges carried a prison sentence of upto 30 years as Nishay Sanam, the Chicago-based attorney defending charges against him in those cases.
After his death the laywer has stated that the Spanish authorities have not given his legal team a cause of death and he wants to know if there were video cameras set inside the cell or in the prison where McAfee was kept.
McAfee Corp. is an American global computer security software company which is headquartered at California in the United States.
The company was founded by McAfee in the year 1987 and later the company was purchased by Intel in February 2011 and become a part of Intel Security division.
