Guwahati News Desk: The State government of Assam is likely to submit its proposal for the National Mission on Edible Oil-Oil Palm (NMEO-OP) to the central government by next week, said Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.
CM Sarma also added that the State government is planning to make maximum benefit in a new mission to boost palm oil production of the Centre.
CM Sarma had a video conference with the Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, DoNER Minister G Kishan Reddy including Chief Ministers of northeastern States and discussed a topic on agriculture and horticulture-related issues of the region.
According to the sources, currently, 350 hectares of oil palm cultivation were available in Assam covering Goalpara, Bongaigaon and Kamrup Rural districts.
Earlier, the Centre has given approval to the State government to launch a new mission on oil palm which was named as NMEO-OP. The mission is a new centrally sponsored scheme with a special focus for the northeastern and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The Centre has allotted financial structure for the northeastern region as Rs 5,850 crore as the total financial structure stands at Rs 11,040 crore.
