Guwahati News Desk: “My landlord was assassinated by me, not my son Hemdhar Baruah,” said Dharanidhar Deka, the man accused of killing his landlord in Guwahati on Friday. Deka denied taking any debt from Baruah when asked and also refuted Baruah’s family’s claims that his son was involved in drug use. He stated that his son is not a drug addict and that if his son were to get addicted to drugs, he would seek treatment.
According to a source, the tenant, Dharani Deka, attacked his landlord with a machete for reportedly misbehaving with his wife and submitted himself to the Dispur police station after committing the crime. “He appeared to be depressed for a long time, but he is otherwise a very kind person,” the source noted. The landlord was taken to a private hospital, but he died from his injuries. Deka, who is in his forties, works as a DTP operator for a private news station.
