Guwahati News Desk: In Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh, at least 29 people have died as a result of nature’s fury in the last nine days. Per the ASDMA, four more people have died in massive flooding on Saturday, bringing the total number of deaths in Assam to 18 since May 14, three deaths occurred in Meghalaya flash floods on May 13, and eight more people have died in Arunachal Pradesh flash floods and landslides since May 16. Assam, the worst-affected state, is showing signs of recovery, with the number of people impacted down to 6.8 lakh from 7.11 lakh on Friday. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, the number of individuals seeking refuge in relief shelters has remained nearly constant.

Amid Arunachal, the body of a missing woman was discovered in landslide debris in Itanagar on Friday. Two men’s bodies were discovered earlier in the same area after their house was buried by a mudslide. Two laborers’ bodies were discovered buried under debris following a landslide in Itanagar on Monday, while three more died earlier in Kurung Kumey district. Meghalaya has recorded one death last Saturday and two last Friday in the East Khasi Hills district, which has received ‘huge excessive’ rainfall. According to the Assam SDMA, the public health engineering department has been instructed to make changes.

The ASDMA has deployed nodal officials and satellite phones to the disaster site to test emergency communication, and efforts for speedy damage assessment have been stepped up to get a comprehensive picture of losses so that a well-informed recovery plan can be put in place.
