Guwahati News Desk: India successfully conducted a test-fire of a surface-to-surface ballistic missile called ‘Agni-5’ on Wednesday.
The test was conducted from APJ Abdul Kalam Island off Odisha coast and was fired at 7:50 pm.
In addition, the missile was built by the Defence Research Development Organisation’s (DRDO).
As per the reports, the missile uses a three-stage solid-fuelled engine and is capable of striking targets up to a 5,000-km range with a very high degree of accuracy.
As per the sources, the successful test-firing aligns with India’s policy to have a “credible minimum deterrence” that underpins the commitment to ‘No First Use’.
Meanwhile, the latest test comes at a time when India and China are locked in a border row in the Ladakh sector, and the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has also scaled up its military activities in the eastern sector, including Arunachal Pradesh.
Moreover, the first test of the missile was carried out in April 2012, while the previous one was reportedly conducted around three years ago.
