Guwahati News Desk: Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain from Assam settled at bronze in the Tokyo Olympics on Wednesday.
Boxer Lovlina lost to Busenaz Surmeneli of Turkey in the womenâs welterweight of 64-69 kg. She becomes the third Indian boxer after Vijendra Singh and MC Mary Kom to bag a medal at the Olympic Games.
Reigning world champion Busenaz Surmeneli successfully lead the opening round by a score of 5-0 to grab the advantage as later Lovlina attempted to fight back against her tough category in the next round but could not make it to the finals.
Lovlina Borgohain is the first female athlete from Assam to qualify for Tokyo Olympics. She qualified for Olympics in March 2020 by winning the Asia and Oceania Boxing Olympic Qualification Tournament.
Earlier, Lovlina reached the semi-final after winning at the quarter-finals in the 69 kg weight category by defeating Nien-chin of China for 4-1 on Friday.
Lovlina reached the quarter-final by defeating Nadine Appetz of Germany by 3-2 in her first bout in the 69 kg category in Tokyo Olympics.
